about Kat Scarlet
Kat was born on the precipice of the punk era in the North West of England, and was always busy doing something creative (or dangerous) as a child. She studied at art college in Merseyside, UK, before specialising in silver jewellery making. Kat migrated to Australia in 1998 where she has been inspired by the raw nature of Australia. She lived in the Southwest corner of Western Australia for 11 years where she pursued a jewellery career creating silver and semi-precious gemstone pieces inspired by the local flora and fauna. Her next move was to the Northern suburbs of Melbourne where she was busy creating art on skin as a custom tattoo artist.
Now residing in Southern Tasmania she once again finds herself drawn to the nature all around. She enjoys spending time watching birds, fungi foraging and hiking, as well as cold water swimming in as many locations across Tasmania as she can. Kat has a passion for nature and conservation. Her works focus on details in the environment that might otherwise go unnoticed and re-create them utilising pattern, hyper-colour and scale to represent them in new ways.
