Weedy Sea Dragon ‘Tinderbox’
Focusing attention on a minuscule and highly localised detail of our environment, this work speaks to the broader picture on a global level. Tinderbox, a place just south of Hobart in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel lives a colony of weedy sea dragons. Tinderbox, something ready to ignite.
This threatened species is endemic to the cooler southern waters of Australia and like many of our unique marine flora and fauna, they are vulnerable to warming waters and changing nutrient levels. Textural photographic elements from Tinderbox create the image, as these creatures venture a mere 500m from their birthplace, environment is of utmost importance.
