Paeonia suffruticosa - 'Tree Peony Black Prince'

One of the world's truly iconic flowers has to be the Tree Peony (牡丹 (mu dan) in China) . Chinese Emperors at one time were the only people in China who were allowed to grow them. They have been in culture in China for millennia, and it is likely that hybrids came into being in gardens, where different wild tree peony species were planted closely together.
