Earlier this year a young girl got up on stage and spoke from the heart in front of all participating EU members and their entourages. Her name was Greta Thunberg.
She told the EU leaders how approximately 200 species are becoming extinct every single day, about the deforestation of our great forests, erosion of valuable topsoils, the extent of toxic air pollution, the loss of insects and wildlife, the increasing acidification of our oceans. She said our house is falling apart and our leaders need to start acting accordingly, but they are not.
She asked why there have been 3 emergency Brexit summits, but no emergency summit for the breakdown of the climate. Our House is on Fire.
Millions of school children are taking to the streets to draw attention to the crisis. We have run out of time to educate ourselves on the detail, its real and it’s happening now…we don’t have time on our side anymore. Leaders need to listen to the young people; it is the world they are inheriting. They aren’t old enough to vote, but they are old enough to understand and care. Our House is on Fire.
Climate change is a natural thing, some say…and as a biological scientist (PhD) I agree, but the worry is the rate of change…that is not natural. The changes that are happening before our eyes are occurring at an unprecedented rate and can be directly linked with the industrialisation of the world.
What we are doing now can soon no longer be undone, and some politicians still do not want to talk about climate breakdown. Our House is on Fire.
This image depicts both the beauty, the absolute wonder of our blue planet. It also depicts exactly why we need to panic about our house being on fire!
