The common hazel is a species native to Europe and western Asia and east to the central Ural Mountains, the Caucasus, and Iran.
Hazel is one of the most useful trees for its bendy stems and as a conservation saviour. Its nuts, which are each held in a short, leafy husk enclosing about three quarters of the nut, are loved by people and animals alike.
